The Nordic Nurses Federation (NNF)

The Nordic Nurses Federation (NNF), founded in 1920, is a cooperative body for the
six Nordic nurses' associations that gives representatives of the member associations the opportunity to discuss themes/issues of mutual concern regarding professional and socio-political matters and organizational affairs.

Nordic cooperation is directed towards

  • - High quality nursing services
  • - Developing nursing competencies
  • - Promoting good salary and working conditions
  • - Influencing Nordic health policy
  • - Integrating professional interest groups

The cooperation also aims to strengthen the work of the member associations both nationally and internationally through commonality of interest in the above areas.

The NNF consists of the Danish Nurses' Organization (DNO), the Finnish Nurses' Association (FNA), the Faroese Nurses' Association (FNA), the Icelandic Nurses' Association (INA), the Norwegian Nurses' Organisation (NNO) and the Nurse Section of the Swedish Association of Health Professionals.

Decisions regarding the admission of new nurses' associations into the NNF and changes in existing membership shall be taken by the Board. Decisions regarding changes in membership require a two-thirds majority vote of the members of the Board.
